Welcome to Eastover!

Dick & Marcia Bailey Whether you are looking for a place to vacation or to hold your meetings or retreat, we are confident that Eastover will meet your needs. We believe that Eastover is the most awesome place in Virginia to have a camp, retreat or conference. Eastover on the James is located in rural Surry County, Virginia. It has a breathtaking view of the James River from a 100 foot elevation above sea level, and the terrain is made up of one-half mile of beach, and 283 acres of woods, lake, ravine and field.

Many people are looking for a place for personal and family retreats. You have just discovered the best anywhere! Experiencing God is easy at Eastover, and made possible by the vision of those who dreamed the facility into existence in 1972.

We believe people are important. Contact us for information. Call and come for a visit. You will be glad you did!

Mission Statement

The mission of Eastover Retreat Center is to provide a sanctified place for Christian groups to meet with God and draw closer to Him.

History of Eastover

Eastover was first given as a land grant to Henry Browne in 1637. At that time it was more than 2000 acres in size, but through the years it was divided and sold, leaving the present Retreat Center with 283 acres. Many years of plantation life were experienced on the grounds, with the raising of cattle and row cropping being the most recent endeavors in agriculture.

Through the years the property has been called by different names, but seemingly became "Eastover" at the time Eastover and Westover were owned by two brothers. Eastover was purchased in 1972 by the Peninsula Baptist Association when it became a place for year-round Christian camps, retreats, and conferences.
